Lake Buena Vista Trip

On Friday and Saturday, July 25-26 we had a youth camping and boating activity at Lake Buena Vista. It is about 25 miles south of Bakersfield, CA. It was a lot of fun. The youth had a great time, as well as the families that participated. We had 23 youth attend and 21 others, including leaders and their families.
Thanks go out to Joey Bennett and Darren Gillhouse who volunteered their boats. We greatly appreciate your generosity.
Below are some pictures from our trip. I am still working on collecting the pictures, so I'm sure there will be additional post as pictures come in.
Thanks to all who participated.

Sarah and Alyssa jockeying for position.

This turned out better than it looks for Jace...

Gillhouse boat, run 1 on Saturday morning (run 2, if you count the leaders 5:15 AM run while the youth were still asleep!)

Bennett boat, run 1 on Saturday morning.

He was excited for his first dip of the morning.

Mindee taking charge of the setup!

Ariane and Megan.

Ella trying to escape to the lake on her own. She didn't think anybody noticed.

She went back and got a recruit after Alyssa caught her the first time.

New Camera

So we got a new camera and Alyssa was playing around with the settings. I would like to think that a new camera would motivate us to blog more, but I don't want to make any promises.

Ashley Harris - Prophet's Prayer

Sunday night we had a fireside for our youth with Ashley Harris. She is a singer songwriter. She grew up in Santa Clarita, but now lives in Georgia. She was asked to put the words from President Hinckley's Prayer over the youth, from November of 2000, to music.

Shortly after she recorded this song, President Hinckley passed away. She found great comfort from this song, as she mourned his passing. She thought it would help others as well. So she made a tribute cd to President Hinckley and all of the proceeds will go to the Perpetual Education Fund.

You can download Prophet's Prayer for free from her website: http://ashleyharris.com/ .

Wakeboarding

Nick recently went wakeboarding with some of the youth from our Ward. Being in 80 degree water at 5:55 am and watching the sunrise while wakeboarding is a great experience. Here are some pictures.

4th of July Weekend

So we spent the 4th of July at Grandma and Grandpa O'Bryant's with Alyssa's brother Steve, his fiancée Wendy, and Jenesee. It was a lot of pool time, BBQ-ing and the game Ticket to Ride. This game is quickly replacing Settlers for us. Check it out:

Jace learned to swim without floaties. He jumped in and forgot he didn’t have his floaties on and there was no looking back. Before we knew it he was jumping off of the rocks, swimming in the deep end, and swimming with his head under water.

Ella has decided that she does not like to be in the water at all, but enjoys lounging around the pool with her mom and eating popsicles and occasionally throws out a nice little dance move, as seen below!

We have had some technical difficulties with our digital camera as of late. So all credit for the great pictures below goes to Steve. Thanks Steve!
